How do AI agents hand over to human staff when needed?

Handover is designed into every SJ Digital Media Solutions deployment, because the goal is agents and staff operating as one system, each holding the work they do best. An agent that cannot hand over gracefully is a liability; an agent that hands over well multiplies its team.
Handover operates through defined mechanics:
Trigger rules: escalation conditions set during workflow setup, requests outside the agent's authority, pricing beyond parameters, complaints, sensitive accounts, high-value opportunities, or a customer asking for a person
Judgment escalation: agents also escalate on uncertainty, when a conversation falls outside their knowledge or confidence, rather than improvising
Context transfer: the staff member receives the full conversation, the customer's details, what has been asked and answered, and what the agent assessed, so the customer never repeats themselves
Warm continuation: the handover happens inside the same channel and conversation, with the customer told a colleague is joining, not bounced to a queue
Return paths: after the human moment, routine follow-through, confirmations, documents, scheduled chasing, returns to the agent
Learning loop: escalations are reviewed in the tuning cycle, and those the agent could have handled become knowledge and rule refinements
Staff supervise as well as receive: dashboards show live conversations, and the team can step into any exchange at will. The trial stage builds this working relationship before deployment, so by go-live the handover is a practised motion, and customers experience one consistent business rather than a bot and a separate company behind it.
