What is Branding Strategy?

Branding strategy is the deliberate plan for how a company will be perceived: what it stands for, whom it serves, how it differs from alternatives, and how that identity is expressed consistently across every point where the market encounters it.
A complete branding strategy answers a defined set of questions:
Positioning: what space the brand occupies in the customer's mind relative to competitors
Value proposition: the specific value promised, and to which customer segments
Brand identity: the name, visual system, tone of voice and experience that express the positioning
Brand architecture: how the company brand relates to its products, services and any sub-brands
Consistency: the standards that keep the brand coherent across channels, teams and markets
Branding strategy is frequently confused with design. Design is an output; strategy is the commercial logic that makes the design mean something. A logo refresh without a positioning decision changes appearance without changing perception.
At SJ Digital Media Solutions, branding strategy is developed as commercial infrastructure. Because SJ also leads clients through overseas expansion, its branding work is built to perform in front of the hardest audience a brand faces: senior executives of potential distributors, franchisees and partners deciding whether the company is credible enough to represent. A brand built to that standard strengthens everything downstream, from marketing conversion at home to the quality of partners secured abroad.
